Backing up your Element Tree
There are instances where the Element Tree in your Business Element Manager could be wiped clean for instance it allegedly happens if you put an invalid character in the name of one of your elements and then close the BEM. The tree is held in an XML file and does not understand special characters and it will break the XML code that generates your tree.
Because of the chances of losing the tree and the time it would take to repopulate the tree, if it did clear itself, it would be good to backup the tree on occasion. The name of the file is summary.xml. If you do a quick search it should come back with the location of that file, however, if it does not it could be located in one of the following places:
- C:\Users\<username>\.bcm\BEM\bin\access - Replacing <username> with the username on the computer the BEM is installed under. Assuming C:\ is your Windows installation location. (Windows 7)
- C:\Program Files\Nortel\Business Element Manager\BusinessElementManager\bin\access - Assuming C:\ is your Windows installation location. (Windows Server 2008 SP2)
